Chapter 1

In the fantasy and medieval world of Spheroidal, the southern land was achieved through forced unification by a charismatic, legendary conqueror who, by sheer force, brought order to the war-torn country. The Empire is a superpower that has lasted for over a millennium, along with an enormous capital city acting as the only center of all culture and technology. As such, all outlying villages are left undeveloped.

The Heartland, the capital and only city of the Empire, is an enormous metropolis, acting as the only center of all culture and technology. The city itself spans thousands of kilometers, with its vast districts ruled by powerful nobles and filled with commoners who live in decentralized communities. The city is divided into four districts: the Imperial District, the Noble District, the Common District, and the Slum District.

But the peace didn't last long when a powerful and mysterious, enigmatic evil magician who calls himself The Dark Lord was constantly besieged by the ever-present threats of unholy forces known by many as The Crimson Knights. It is said they are mysteriously led by the Dark Lord, an immortal and ancient magician who seeks to reclaim the country through his powerful minions.

During moments of boredom, wicked monsters made from his evil magics would wreck havoc across the land, requiring brave heroes, mercenaries, and knights to vanquish them from the face of the earth in an effort to suppress these unholy threats. Aside from them, the undead is also a problem in itself. Reanimated creatures are raised from the dead during the night and commonly roam around the land. They don't attack unless they see the person, in which case they will hunt that person down without mercy.

The Crimson Knights are enigmatic and corrupted warriors who decided to serve the Dark Lord for reasons unknown to mankind. But their threat doesn’t stop there, for they are also capable of thinking and planning, especially conversing like humans, despite possessing inhuman strength and durability beyond normal human limits.

Abominations aren't the only thing a mere traveler should worry about; bandits are also a common sight around these lands, looting, murdering, and pillaging everything in sight. Most are men or women who were driven to the path of crime due to unfortunate circumstances; others are simply because they have nothing else to lose.

Despite all the danger surrounding it, the Heartland is considered a safe place for travelers, merchants, and adventurers. The Imperial Army maintains law and order, keeping the peace with the aid of guilds, especially the Adventurer Guild, which consists of countless numbers of fighters willing to risk their lives for gold, honor, or glory. The adventurers are ranked by metal depending on their abilities, ranging from bronze to adamantium.

Be wary of using magic. Mage Slayers, or in short, Mage Hunters, are skilled, expert assassins, trackers, and bounty hunters who excel in hunting rogue and evil magicians who use their powers to commit crimes and abhorrent atrocities against humanity. They are commonly trained in the use of stealth, muskets, and hit-and-run tactics to hunt down their enemies with knowledge of the enemy.

Magic is a general term used for manipulating reality around them by speaking incantation or performing gestures. Everyone is capable of using magic to some degree, though it takes years upon years of training to become a master magician, depending on their willpower.

The more will a person has, the easier it becomes to learn a spell. Spells are learned through reading scrolls or books, understanding their intent, and using willpower. The stronger a spell is, the more it requires of the person's willpower. People who use spells are called magicians and are either mistrusted due to The Dark Lord's actions or they are viewed as questionable allies that can lend a helping hand.

Is the land forever doomed for destruction? Only time will tell after three heroes are summoned from different worlds to come and save it from peril, bringing order back to the province; perhaps there is hope after all.
