Enter Deystrum, a world where only a few hundred magical people exist out of thousands. When someone magical dies, the next child born becomes magical, maintaining a fixed and balanced set of magic in the world. If you have seven different magical abilities, you’re a seven. If you have six abilities, you’re a six. As such, the most powerful “able-bodied” citizens are thrust into fame and responsibility while the weaker ones are exploited.   One of the few sevens, Atiniir Stormcell, is only eight years old when his father the King is assassinated.
