The story features many characters, but the central focus is on Alexandria Holder. Each Paragraph should represent a chapter.
The story begins with a 17 year old Alexandria (commonly called Alex) and her life in the Village of Sleeves within the Stirling Isles region. It is revealed early on that Alex is abnormal, because in a world where species are limited to the elements of magic they can use (and at most use 3), Alex can utilize all 5.
Alex completes her education at Valorhold Academy and successfully becomes an adventurer after passing her exam within the dungeon called the Grotto of Echoes.
Alex receives a letter from her childhood friend, Madison Goldbrook, and a ticket for passage from the Stirling Isles to the mainland via Town of Haven. The ship is sailing through a terrible storm, and Alex is reminded of when her family fled their home when she was 6 due to a vicious orc raid. Her mother and brother were lost, and the survivors were evacuated to the Stirling Isles.
Alex arrives in the Town of Haven and meets up with Madison, and her companion Ellis. Together, they form an adventuring party and grab their first quest from the Adventurers Guild. This quest introduces them to Ferrath, a mage seeking to explore the ruins of Lost Hope. The adventure guild also adds the task of scouting "The Forbidden Tower" from a distance.
Alex and gang find ruins of "Lost Hope" a bit more corrupted than expected. They face several fiends but are able to easily dispatch them. Upon investigating the ruins, Alex realizes this was the town her family had fled. While investigating what Ferrath believes to be a ritual circle, a fiend lashes out and catches Alex by surprise, deeply cutting her arm. Ferrath jumps between Alex and the fiend, casting fire magic from one hand while shielding Alex with the other. The ritual circle then begins to shine bright and suddenly shoots up bright light high into the sky. Madison and Ellis run to the source of the light, finding Alex and Ferrath unconscious on the ground. They hear an ungodly roar from the direction of The Forbidden Tower, and decide to make a hasty retreat, Ellis carrying both Alex and Ferrath.
Alex wakes up in Haven, feeling extremely weakened. She was informed she lost a significant amount of blood during the run on the way back and she has been asleep for 3 days. Madison informs her that the roar from The Forbidden Tower had caused fiends to set upon them from all sides, necessitating a swift and prolonged retreat without rest until they reached Haven. Ferrath regained consciousness during the retreat and seemed otherwise fine. Upon returning to Haven, Ferrath let the adventure guild know the party members had performed exemplary in satisfying his conditions for the quest and left the reporting of the details to Madison and Ellis while he locked himself away in his room at the Inn, busy with quill in hand. The adventure guild deemed the quest a success as the group also returned crucial (though disturbing) details regarding The Forbidden Tower, and as an act of apology and reward, immediately boost Alex's adventure party from "No-Rank" to "D-Rank". After several days of frustration, Alex admits to her comrades her that she is unable to take in Mana and use magic.
Alex and crew, Ferrath included, head to the town of Windemere to visit the Adventure Guild Headquarters and deliver a missive and formally receive their new Guild Emblems. Upon arrival Madison breaks off from the group to meet with her father, Arthur Goldbrook, the Baron of Windemere. At the Adventure's Guild HQ, Alex signs the team up for another quest to inspect a newly built tunnel through the mountains using old mines. By chance, Alex is also introduced to the local Adventure Guild's director, Elora Torwenys. Elora briefly looks over the report of the mission at Lost Hope and expresses to Alex that she will be keeping an eye on her. After visiting the The Adventure Guild's Headquarters, the team reconnects with Madison.
The team set out to Dagger's Pass, a newly built tunnel through the Dagger Peak Mountains that took advantage of the previously abandoned mines. The team is charged with deeming the passage safe before its official opening, as multiple workers have been reported missing. Upon entering the tunnels, the team stumbles upon caverns that were not on the original map. They find it illuminated by strange crystals, and occupied by even stranger creatures. Inside they find the missing workers, but it is revealed to be a trap. Many of the workers end up being killed as Alex is adjusting to not being able to use magic. Just as they are cornered, two men with overwhelming strength step in to assist them. After the danger has passed, they introduced themselves as Jett Ulrich and Delisle Della, members of the Church of Nova. They claim to be independently surveying the mines after hearing reports of strange creatures. Although traumatized by the loss of lives on the mission, Jett reassures Alex and her team they fought well and they aren't responsible for the losses. They return to Windemere together, and Jett accompanies Alex to give his testimony for the missions results.
After another successful mission, Madison surprises the team with tickets to a Gala that night, as well as tickets for a Skyship to take them to the newly opened theater park located on a nearby Island. The team then spends the day looking for a dress for Alex to prepare for that night. At the Gala, we learn Jett Ulrich and Elora Torweyns are actually engage, and Orrelic Vander is in attendance. He and Alex have a brief encounter before the team turns in for the night for their trip in the morning.
Alex, Madison, and Ellis set sail on the maiden voyage of the skyship named The Indomitable. Ferrath says his farewells to the group, instead opting to head back to the city of Merlin and further research his new discovery. As they pass over the Dagger Peak Mountains, the skyship suddenly finds a dragon in its way. The crew and passengers not only find themselves in shock that Dragons are real, but are also flabbergasted to discover dragons are capable of speech too. The Dragon scold's them for trespassing in their domain and informs them they will now be killed. Before he strikes, an imposing woman with a massteps forward and identifies herself as Myralithra, exuding an aura as astonishing as the dragon itself. She states everyone on the ship is under her protection and prohibits the dragon from harming them. Carefully examining her up and down, the dragon then lets out a laugh and with almost what seemed like a smirk said "Vargachkossir". With what could be perceived as a condescending tone, the dragon introduces itself as Zarynthalaris. The dragon acquiesces to Myralithra's condition that everyone on board is under her protection, but deems the vessel forfeit for daring to enter his domain and will be destroyed in 5 minutes. Despite shouts, anger, and pleading from Arthur Goldbrook, the pilots quickly descend and roughly land the ship. After the last passenger disembarks, Zarynthalaris spews molten magma onto the vessel, melting it into slag. The dragon then quickly departs, saying "farewell, slier" towards Myralithra as he flies away. Luckily for the passengers, they are close to the port and can resume their journey by boat.
Alex, Madison, and Ellis continue their journey towards the theme resort. Many of the passengers are visibly distraught from their recent experience. Arthur Goldbrook immediately took off ahead of the group with some of his aides, but the pilots and crew of The Indomitable maintain a professional and encouraging attitude as they quickly make adjustments for an unscheduled sailing from the port. The passengers who are not shocked or scared are actually quite intrigued. Some are elated to discover the existence of dragons, while some even contemplate whether the entire encounter was part of the experience by way of an illusion spell. Alex falls into the category of being intrigued to discover the existence of dragons, but also immediately wanting to know more about Myralithra. Several of the passengers swore the dragon had addressed her as "Slayer" when he departed, leading some to think Myralithra is in fact a Dragon Slayer, and why she was on the flight to begin with. When Alex inquires about her with Madison, Madison simply says she is the granddaughter of Grand Paladin Orrelic, leader of the Church of Nova and ruler of the city of Ozryn. This generates a spew of additional questions from Alex before the group docks at the port for the theater park.
Shortly after arriving at the theater park, Alex notices Myralithra already departing. Putting the thought out of her mind, the crew begin to explore the park and all the wonders it plays host to. Horseless drawn carriages that take you on a predetermined path around the island; a mine cart ride that features steeps inclines and sudden drops; walk-thru zones that feature reality bending and sense altering experiences; dozens of games involving tossing various items like rings and balls to win prizes; giant slides and tubes with water constantly running through them to help participants glide down them; varied performances and singers scattered throughout; dozens of different food and drink stands featuring items found throughout the entire world; and many more things Alex knew not how to describe. The day culminates in an unforgettable performance hosted by none other than the Paladin known as Ruff. During the performance, an woman jumps onto the stage and begins to dance. While Ruff maintains singing and seems to synchronize his moves with hers, his background singers/dancers look shocked, as does security. At the end of the performance, they both take a bow and exit off separate sides of the stage. Upon returning to their hotel late that evening, they notice a fight taking place by the docks. It is Ruff fighting against the woman from the stage. Despite several powerful blows, the woman seems to easily evade them and lands a counter attack. Shaken, Ruff lets out the full extent of his aura. The woman laughs, and then disappears into the night. Ruff stands tall, but is visibly wounded and winded. He spots Alex and friends and gives them his trademark smile and thumbs-up, despite the blood streaming from his face. He walks back towards the stage and Alex and friends turn in for the night.
