Argentii

The Fractured Land

A fractured world of islands ruled by the winds and waves, where ghosts walk until their spirits are cured into their bones. What do you want to be when you die?

The lore wiki for my upcoming solo RPG series. Argentii is a world of islands where ships sail the sea and skies, libraries are sacred institutions, and powerful organizations wander in the shadows of wandering ghosts.

The treacherous winds that drive ships into the deadly shallows are among the least of the dangers, for weather has no agenda. An evil cult, technology powered by blood magic, and an ever-spreading ecological disaster cast a pall over life on both the urban and the rural isles.

Hi hi hi! My name is Haly, I am the Moonlight Bard, and I am currently developing a line of solo adventures set in my magipunk world of Argentii.

I define my style as "cozy horror" because I deal a lot with ghosts and other haunted lore. The liminal space between life and death is a fascinating playground full of all the mysteries of consciousness.

Rhapsody in Realms: A World-building Passion Portfolio by Haly, the Moonlight Bard / J. M. Dearinger

Rhapsody in Realms is my world-building portfolio and the companion to my daily world-building newsletter, Rhapsody by Moonlight.

Interests & Hobbies

You can find me at GenCon every year! I love board and card games and have a collection of over 300. I knit, crochet, dye yarn, and occasionally try my hand at spinning (to mixed results).

Favorite Movies

My go-to movies are usually by Mel Brooks and Monty Python. But then there's also Clue and the Princess Bride. The Scream movies and Wes Craven's New Nightmare belong on the list, as well. Rise of the Guardians was a magnificient piece of world-building, and the Dungeons & Dragons movie with Chris Pine is a special sort of amazing.

Favorite TV Series

I will forever love-love-love Beavis and Butthead. (Go ahead and sneer, Sir Patrick Stewart and I will be over here eating it with a spoon.) Rick & Morty, The Twilight Zone, and The X Files have heavy influence on me.

Favorite Writers

Aaron Meinke is the writer I most aspire to be like, though I would settle for Stephen King or Nora Roberts; I admire working writers. Writers who keep churning out books for me to read, and don't just sit on their laurels. Writers like Tim Zahn and Neal Stephenson. And I really wish Patrick Rothfuss would get over himself and just write the damn book.

Favorite Games

I love Gloom, because it's a story telling game. Of course. Big fan of Tokaido and National Parks; Villainous, Betrayal At Baldur's Gate, and Azul are also perenneal favorites. I especially love games that are beautiful to look at. Bonus points if there are cats.
