Create Ward

The magical person can create a magical ward that blocks or resists against another ability. Wards can be applied to a small physical object, a door (to protect the entire room), or in multiple places on a building to protect the entire building.   Create Ward is a group ability, as it requires one or more other magical person who is performing the ability that is to be warded. Technically speaking, the ward acts as an "allow-list," where the casters of the ability-to-be-warded are blocking anyone not participating from casting the ability.   For example, if one wanted to ward a room against telepathic invasion, they would need to include a telepath who will be actively trying to read the thoughts of those in the room while ward is created. When the ward is finished, that telepath can still read the room, but other telepaths will have a hard time doing so (depends on the mastery of both warder and the telepaths involved). If the warder wanted to guard the room against ALL telepaths, they would need at least two telepaths and two wards: One ward for each telepath that blocks everyone else.   Additionally, if you wanted to permit trusted people to cast certain magical abilities in a room or against an object, all trusted people must be present at the creation of the ward.

Manifestation

A magical, somewhat luminous glyph of some kind that typically represents the ability that the ward is protecting from will appear on the surface of the physical object.
Effect Casting Time
A couple of seconds, depending on complexity.
Applied Restriction
  • If the list of people who are trusted changes, an entirely new ward must be created.
  • The physical object or surface that is being warded must be touched, it cannot be done at range.
  • Wards do not diminish, they are permanent. They cannot be broken, but they can be overcome.
  • Wards can stack, but each additional layer requires twice the effort of the previous layer.
  • Wards can be overcome by a magical person who has more mastery than the warder at the time of creation. When this happens the ward goes from a full block to a resisting state, where it diminishes the effect of the ability instead of blocking it.
