For the duration a plume of\r\ndark smoke pours from the skull, heavily obscuring a 10-foot\r\narea around the point of the spell\u2019s casting that extends upwards\r\nin a cylinder that reaches the clouds.\r\n\r\nOver the course of the spell's duration, the smoke fills the\r\nskies, advancing 1 mile per minute that you concentrate on the\r\nspell, out to a maximum 60-mile radius around you. After every\r\n10 minutes that you concentrate on the spell, a new effect\r\noccurs and persists for the duration of the spell. These effects\r\nare as follows:\r\n\r\n[b]10 minutes.[\/b] All light sources have their range reduced by\r\nhalf, unless that light source comes from a spell of 6th-level or\r\nhigher.\r\n\r\n[b]20 minutes.[\/b] Any dim-light in the area becomes darkness.\r\n\r\n[b]30 minutes.[\/b] The sun is completely covered, stopping any\r\nsunlight from penetrating the smoke. All that can be seen is a\r\nthin corona of sunlight in the sky that has darkened to a\r\nmenacing red.\r\n\r\n[b]40 minutes.[\/b] The darkness oppresses the mind, any creature\r\nother than the caster that takes a long rest underneath the\r\ndarkness must make a saving throw against Shadowfell Despair\r\n(as detailed on page 52 of the Dungeon Master\u2019s Guide).\r\n\r\n[b]50 minutes.[\/b] All healing received by a creature other than the\r\ncaster in the area is halved.\r\n\r\n[b]60 minutes.[\/b] The plume of smoke from the crystal stops, and\r\nspells effects become permanent, persisting in their entirety\r\nuntil successfully dispelled. You need not concentrate from this\r\npoint onwards to maintain the effects of the spell.\r\n\r\nIf for any reason the spell ends before the duration has\r\nexpired, the effects persist for 1d4 + 1 hours, with the effects\r\ndisappearing as they appeared, but in reverse order during the\r\nfinal hour.\r\n\r\nUndead creatures are immune to the effects of this spell.\r\n\r\nAfter the effects have been made permanent a creature that\r\nwishes to permanently dispel the darkness must find where it\r\nwas first cast, dig up the crystal skull that was buried at the\r\ncasting location after the spell\u2019s completion, and cast a success\r\ndispel magic on the skull.\r\n","higherlevels":"","source":"The Archive of Esoteric Secrets","tabledata":"","tags":"Spell,Sorcerer,Warlock,Wizard,8th Level","templateId":"19","blockId":"244145","isShared":"on"}
